The Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design, LEED, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. It provides a framework for project planners to "create healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings."

As a third-party organization, LEED assesses the environmental friendliness of your job site and helps promote resource efficiency. LEED standards have been applied to over 83,452 projects worldwide.
In terms of the building and construction aspect, LEED has five different rating systems: LEED for New Construction, LEED for Core and Shell, LEED for Schools, LEED for Retail (New Construction and Major Renovations, and lastly LEED for Healthcare.
