Construction Specifications Institute

Founded in 1948, the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) is the organization that regulates and updates building specifications. It provides structures for specification writing in the Project Resource Manual.

One of the main functions of CSI is the upkeep of MasterFormat which is an indexing system for organizing construction specifications. Within MasterFormat there are 50 Divisions of construction. The 50 Divisions span from concrete to masonry and fire suppression and everything in between.

For our purposes, the Polished Concrete industry's MasterFormat number is 03.35.43.
